Melanin Family Newz: Is Slim Thug Serious?

What Had Happened Was...

On Thursday, August 2nd Slim Thug stopped by local radio station, 97.9 and shared his two cents on Ciara marrying Future. He is quoted as saying…

“Do a woman who used to talk to Future really want a Russell Wilson?”

“I don’t believe it I think it’s all for financial stability.” “He’s just a corny dude, ain’t nothing wrong with it, I ain’t gonna say corny cause that’s hatin’ but he’s just like a square… I don’t believe a girl coming from a street dude could even adapt to that.”

“I ain’t sayin she’s a gold digger, because she got her own, but at the end of the day I don’t believe it’s real.”

Well, the McGhees like so many of you have their own thoughts on what Slim Thug had to say about Russell and Ciara’s union. Let's Get into it.

I Get what Slim is saying but Nah...

Slim Thug has a point about what he said but the perspective he put it in was wrong. The reason why I believe it is easy for Ciara to move from Future to Russell is if Ciara wasn’t involved in Future’s “street life” or “thug life”. If he didn’t bring that to her then it didn’t become apart of who she was as an individual. If she had become involved in that “street” life then it would be very difficult for her to move from Future to Russell.

The problem becomes respect. A woman can respect any man, but if she develops respect for Future because of what he represented to the streets or because of his “street ways” then she would have a hard time respecting Russell because he doesn’t bring that. It’s apparent to me that Future didn’t bring that to Ciara. This is truly apparent to me based off of how she mothers her children and carries herself. I think Ciara has always had a Russell type of mentality, her core values wouldn’t allow her and Future to have a substantial relationship that would last.

When I think of women who are truly street women who desire and want street men like what Future represents they aren’t and can’t be good mothers. When you are in the streets, hustling, chasing behind a hustler, holding a hustler down something has to give and that is usually your children. Your core values aren’t what is necessary to be a truly good mother, and the same goes for men who are in the streets. When I watch Ciara with her children I don’t see any street mentality in her, Future didn’t change who she was.

Russell ain't corny though...

I am the girl that loved street dudes and then ran to a “corny” one and ended up with a street dude who went straight (the perfect mix). So I firmly believe that Ciara could have grown up and from her relationship with Future and found real love and romance in Russell. Russell may be “corny” in comparison to Future but he doesn’t come across as my definition of a true “square”, “corny” dude. Yes, Russell is romantic, dotes on Ciara and showers her with open love and affection but is that really the definition of a “corny” dude?

I totally see why a street dude like Slim Thug sees Russell as corny because he’s not a ninja in these streets at all. Russell is educated, secure in his manhood and out here living his best life with a woman he appears to be madly in love with. He’s a family man. He’s a loving, doting, affectionate husband. He’s silly at times but handles his business. Now if Slim had of called him a good dude then I’d agree with that, but corny nah Slim you just ain’t completely evolved into a good dude yet.

The problem for me when I went from a street dude to a “corny” one is that I couldn’t respect him. He didn’t have a backbone, he wasn’t able to stand in his power as a man and command attention and respect. He was a pushover, and when you mix that with an Alpha female (who wasn’t in recovery then) it was hard to respect him and almost impossible to submit to him because he was always submitting to me. SMH!

It took me a while to realize I didn’t really want someone selling drugs, running credit card schemes, pimping, or always looking to get over on somebody. I wanted someone who was sure of themselves, lived in their masculine energy and commanded, demanded attention and respect by just merely walking in the room. I found this in my street dude who went straight husband, but this kind of man can be found everywhere, and I believe Russell Wilson is one of these kind of dudes.
